Our Recent Activities

Constitution
Great news! Our new constitution has been approved by the Charities Regulator. We are finally ready to have our bank account officially renamed. Confirmation of same will be included in the next newsletter. We also plan on having a Stripe account, which will allow payments via credit card on our website.
Vegan Starter Guide
We created a new Vegan Starter Guide for the VSI website. The Starter Guide was featured in a recent article in Rude Health Magazine.
Talk at UCD
VSI Secretary and spokesperson on the Environment James O’Donovan gave a presentation at University College Dublin on 1 October 2024. The event was entitled “Policies to Support a Sustainable Agri-Food System — Selection of EU and Irish Success Stories”.
Radio Interviews
James was also invited to speak about veganism on Newtalk’s Lunchtime Live program with Sean Defoe, who it turns out is also a vegan!
In November, VSI member Becky Jenkins participated in the Moncrieff Show on Newstalk. The topic was vegan dating in Ireland and the global vegan dating app ‘Veggly’. They had a chat about whether the vegan community prefers to date fellow vegans and the obstacles thrown up when one person in a relationship is vegan and the other isn’t.
Budget 2025
We released a pre-Budget 2025 statement outlining our demands as well as responded to the Budget 2025 allocation for animal agriculture and racing.
General Election 2024
We sent a message to all political parties asking them to add our demands to their election manifestos. In addition, we created a score card, rating the main parties in the election based on their policies on animals.
‘Got Oat?’ campaign
We called on Irish Rail to stop marginalising vegans and people with dairy allergies by providing plant-based alternatives on rail services.
